This little man is growing up. He went to nursery for the first time a few weeks before Hadley was born (even though he was only 16 months old). I almost cried so many times! He walked into the room and didn't look back. I felt so un-needed, but also relieved that he was so comfortable and happy to be in his new world of little people.
As he walked away from me and into the big bad world out there of the LDS nursery (tongue in cheek), I had to wonder. Will my son be accepted? Will kids share their toys with him? Will they push him over or steal
his toys? Is my baby safe? The tears started coming and I looked around for a mom to comfort me. All of the other moms were so happy, delighted, elated, to be dropping their children off, and they skipped happily away and down the hall. Was there no one to hug me? No one to lend me a shoulder to cry on? My little boy was growing up! Does no one notice what is happening right now? Does no one see how big this moment is? I tried to keep the tears at least inside my eyes and not falling down my face as I forced myself to walk away from the observation window and into the Relief Society room. I played the pregnancy bathroom and hydration card a few times during class just so I could check on my boy. There I saw him through the window again, just fine! As fine as could be! He was sitting at the table, folding his hands, carefully observing the other kids and awaiting his turn to receive his marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and sippy cup. What a sweetheart! Can I have my baby back now?
I did make it to the end of church, but ouch. It hurts my heart to watch my baby grow up.
